| Using
Assessment to Help Students Grow™ |
| |
| |
The Grow Network® is
an innovative education company with a unique mission: to transform
assessment results into instructional tools for teachers, principals,
and parents.
The
Grow Network was founded in 2000 to address a critical problem:
Despite the growing importance of testing throughout grades
K–12, the results are rarely used to
improve instruction. We have conducted hundreds of focus
groups with thousands of teachers, principals, district leaders,
and parents to understand how to make data truly useful. Through
this work, we have developed The Grow Network system of integrated
print reports, web tools, instructional materials, and professional
development that transforms the results of large-scale assessments
into clear and effective tools for action.
The Grow Network provides: |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| |
1. |
Clear
test reports for educators that invite the question, "What
can I do to help my students grow?" |
 |
| |
2. |
Web
tools for educators that are easy to use and give access
to student, class, and grade-level performance. |
 |
| |
3. |
Instructional materials that build teacher understanding
of the curricula standards and suggest appropriate classroom activities
and teaching strategies. |
 |
| |
4. |
Professional
development that ensures effective use of our materials
and gathers feedback to inform continuous improvement. |
 |
| |
5. |
Useful
information for parents to help their
children grow. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| Reinforcing
Standards Nationwide |
| |
| |
The
Grow Network has brought together an exceptional, cross-disciplinary
team of staff and advisors. Among our areas of expertise are
educational measurement, K–12
academic subjects, professional development and communications,
design and user interface, dynamic print technology, and web
engineering.
Beginning in the 2000–01 school year, we have delivered Grow
Reports® to the New York City public schools. As the system-wide
assessment partner of the NYC Department of Education, we are
now responsible for reporting on the Math and Reading performance
of more than 450,000 students in Grades 3–8.
Based
on the enthusiastic response to our work, The Grow Network
has expanded rapidly over the past several years to collaborate
with many districts and states. Among our current partners
are the Chicago Public Schools, and the states of California,
Ohio, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania.
The
Grow Network is committed to providing school systems with
custom, standards-based programs that transform teaching and
learning for all students. We collaborate closely with key
local stakeholders (including principals, teachers, and parents)
to ensure that our materials reflect state and local standards
and are deeply influenced by local educational priorities and
approaches.

About
FAMILY MATH
FAMILY MATH, part of the EQUALS program at the University
of California, focuses on developing innovative mathematics
curriculum materials to increase access and equity for all
students and to help children everywhere realize success in
mathematics.
FAMILY MATH books, based on the successful FAMILY MATH program,
present exciting mathematics materials to help families learn
and enjoy mathematics together. These activities, games, and
investigations provide an interactive approach to understanding
algebra, number sense, geometry, probability and statistics,
and much more.
In FAMILY MATH, parents learn ways to boost their child's
success and confidence in mathematics. FAMILY MATH, FAMILY
MATH II, FAMILY MATH—THE MIDDLE
SCHOOL YEARS, and MATEMÁTICA
PARA LA FAMILIA give adults and children a wonderful
way to discover mathematics together.
