There are many interesting ways to make reading and writing a part of summer fun. Below are activities that you and your child can do together. The activities cover many different reading and writing skills, and vary by difficulty level.

Find Someone Who...
By interviewing neighbors or family members, your child will discover how facts, beliefs, and preferences all influence our opinions. This activity builds skills in Critical Analysis and Social Interaction.
 
Newsmakers
Through reading and discussing newspaper and magazine articles, your child will explore how events influence and shape characters. This activity builds skills in Literary Response and Expression.
 
In the Life of a Room
By writing a profile of a room through close observation, your child will focus on how setting can reflect the identity of a character. This activity builds skills in Literary Response and Expression.
 
Charting Passions
By making a detailed chart of the topics that excite and interest him, your child will identify his passions and the questions he can pursue to explore his passions further. This activity builds skills in Critical Analysis and Social Interaction.
